The University of Central Florida's (UCF) National Center for Forensic Science (NCFS), is pleased to provide external Proficiency Tests 4 times a year in the computer forensic area through their Digital Forensics Quality Solutions (DFQS) project.

On Monday November 5th, 2007 the ASCLD/LABĀ® Board of Directors approved the National Center for Forensic as its first computer forensic proficiency test provider. NCFS produces the proficiency tests under the project name of Digital Forensics Quality Solutions (DFQS). The test is developed by UCF Faculty, beta tested by law enforcement and forensic scientists and offered through the UCF Department of Continuing Education.

Our objective is to provide high quality tests that will assist forensic laboratories, investigative units and corporate entities in seeking management quality as well as accreditation in digital forensics. Our tests can be used for a variety of purposes including:

  • external proficiency testing
  • laboratory quality assurance
  • internal recurring training
  • potential new hire evaluations

How many tests are available?

We have tests available on hard drives and thumb drives. The 2009 proficiency test is designed to simulate forensic imaging and documentation of original evidence items, forensic image hashing, file system identification, volume name identification, hashing of user generated files, identification of forensic artifacts associated with email, graphic images, deleted files and archive files.
